Moving to a new house is an incredibly exciting time, but it can also be an overly busy and sometimes stressful period in our lives. No matter where you’re moving from, who you’re moving with, or where you’re moving to, it can seem like an overwhelming task to undertake. To ensure your process of packing and moving to Mosaic is an easy one, we’ve put together our top tips on how to make the move like a pro.

Have a Spring Clean
It’s simple; the less you have to pack, the less you have to move, the easier it will be. Once you’ve made the decision to relocate, try and set aside some time to have a look at your possessions and part with the things you no longer use or want. Get even more out of the throw out and help others by donating it to charity or sell it online for a little extra cash. Don’t stop at belongings, you could even take the time to declutter a space like the pantry by placing everything in containers, this will make packing the kitchen so much easier. If you’re having trouble parting with belongings, we recommend trying Marie Kondo’s “Does it bring you joy” method which helps make a spring clean more efficient.

Start soon
Although it can be tempting to put it off until the last minute, the sooner you start packing, the less angst you will feel closer to moving day. Start small and start soon and that way you won’t become overwhelmed with all there is to do once you start moving. Think about the items around the house that you don’t use often, or the clothes you’re not wearing that season and begin packing those first. It can even be worth constructing a time line to do list to ensure you stay on top of it all.

Perfect Packing
Before you begin packing, think about the process of moving and unpacking. By that, we mean consider things like what will be going where in the new home and what will be a big effort to lift. To make these activities easier, there’s a few things you can do such as:

  • Filling big boxes with lighter items, not heavy ones. Doing this means you won’t be struggling to lift and move excess weight.
  • Pack by room. This way, when you move everything that lives together will be together, making unpacking quicker and easier
  • Use a marker pen to not only label the box by room, but with brief bullet points about exactly what items, this way you’re not trawling through boxes in your new home looking for that wine glass to unwind with!

Moving day must haves
The day of your move is bound to be a big one. Avoid wasting time on the day digging around in boxes, pack a small bag with your essential items. Include items such as toiletries and toilet paper, chargers, cleaning products, a set of bed linen, a change of clothes and of course snacks to keep your energy and spirits up.

Organise a pet and child minder
You don’t need the day to be any harder or busier than it is already guaranteed to be. To make sure it doesn’t get any more tricky, we suggest asking a family member, friend or dedicated minder to look after your pets and kids on the day. When they’re out of your hair, you’re bound to be more productive and smash the move sooner!

We’re so excited to start welcoming you to Mosaic later this year and hope our blog has helped the move easier.
